Your busy, but you know that your success is tied directly to the success of your team. The problem is that sometimes you get busy and forget to make sure that your team understands your vision and what’s required for success. Or, maybe you’ve had a great quarter and you want to celebrate, but just having a few beers with the team isn’t going to accelerate accomplishments. Worse yet, sometimes as a leader we don’t get input into our own blind spots and that can lead to disaster for the team.
The reality is if you don’t continue to proactively give your vision, make sure everyone on your team is playing the right position, and make an honest evaluation of your own leadership, eventually you won’t have a team and you want be able to reach your goals.
I remember early in my career when I went to my first corporate workshop for the organization’s entire leadership team. It was AWESOME! We had an offsite meeting for 3-days on the Texas coast. We learned a lot about each other, the organization’s vision, and how we each were integral to completing the mission (AND we had a lot of fun on the beach in the evenings 8^).
